Brekky Wrap: Pregnant Mum Hacked To Death, Husband Injured During Luxury Holiday

A pregnant mother has been hacked to death, her husband left with serious injuries after an attack at a luxury resort in South Africa. Karen Turner was sleeping beside her husband Matthew and toddler at the Hluleka Nature Reserve early Tuesday morning when she was attacked. Suffering multiple stab wounds, Karen, who was three-months pregnant, died instantly while Matthew suffered upper-body injuries and remains in intensive care in hospital. Their 23-month-old son escaped unharmed.

"It is not yet clear what happened but [it] will be determined by the investigation," Captain Dineo Koena of the Eastern Cape police told News24. "According to their neighbour, loud voices were heard and when he went to check, he found their [baby] son unharmed". Koena added that there was no sign of forced entry and nothing was taken in the attack.. Family members have taken to social media insisting it was not a domestic-related attack.

There has been a mid-air emergency on a Jetstar flight from Sydney to Bali overnight. A crack appeared in a cockpit windshield as the plane flew over the Northern Territory. Thankfully, the aircraft landed safely in Melbourne where the plane is undergoing repairs.

There is a fresh push to toughen terror laws in Australia. Home Affairs Minister Peter Dutton is expected to introduce legislation changes to parliament today, which would make it easier to strip dual nationals of their citizenship if they are convicted of terrorism offences.

The NSW upper house has rejected an amendment to a bill decriminalising abortion that sought to ban terminations on the grounds of sex selection.Fifteen voted in favour of the amendment, 26 against on Wednesday night, preventing its passage. Debate on the issue will continue this morning.
